North cape

July 6th / Honnigsvag-Karigasniemi via North Cape : 330 km

jour 13

I exit my tent...sun is already here ! Sure, because it never went. I pack my luggages and ride the last 25 kilometers to my final destination. Road is nice, but, suddenly, there is dense fog all around. But I feel I'm realy close...and I am, there is a toll 'yes, Sir, entrance fee is 30 E !! ' And I'm lucky, because I don't have camping car. I let the bike on the parking, and I'm now facing a building.

Le Cap Nord - Batiment touristique

Here I am, 71° north, top of Europe...YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS. I visit the exposition in the building, funny and quite interesting. Then I exit, there is a lot of wind and fog, but I can see the globe, symbol of North Cape.

I take another picture of the cliff, with a different point of view (smoke slightly goes).

I stay another additional hour in the building, because weather is still cold outside, and I enjoy the moment. Then I go back to the parking, and as I am 10 cm in front of the BMW, I am the northernmost bike in the world !! YEAH.

And now I just have to go home, using the same road than for the homeward journey for 100 km. Now weather is good, and these views of steppe with Arctic ocean behind are still so magic.

Invitation au voyage

I use once again North Cape tunnel, paying 15 E this time too. This is a very long tunnel, dark (normal but not so fun with smoked shield), humid, going more than 200 m under earth, cold and full of fog (really not fun with open because smoked shield). I goes down and up at 7%...no problem for me, but it seems the two Slovak guys on bicycle didn't really appreciate it !

I meet some other reindeers on my way.

Renne !!

Once in Lakselv, I go in the country, and, after a few kilometer, everything changes. No mountains, just never ending forest...welcome to Laapi.

Foret de Laponie

I cross the border after one hour, and leave Norway...bye-bye . Maybe the greatest country in the world, beautiful, welcoming, quiet, in which you feel free...just like would say Terminator : "I'LL BE BACK".

And now let's enter Finland. Great, you can pay with Euros. But because of hot weather and lakes, there is a lot of mosquitos, and this will quickly become really disturbing. I'm OK for today, let's sleep.
