Necessary tools

Screwdrivers

Tournevis

For economic reasons, it's better to buy a whole set, with slotted and philips heads. For the other kind of heads (torx, allen), I prefer to use heads that can be set up on a ratchet.

Ratchet and sockets

Douilles et cliquets

These tools are not important, they are essential !! Choose a complete set, with all sockets from 8 to 27. You need torx and allen heads too. Then you have to face the quality/price ratio question...In my opinion, some top level but expensive tools are only for professionnals. For amator mechanics, middle price sets are enough...you may use your tools 100 times less than a professional, so, you don't need the same reliability. I bought the set on the picture for 30 E 10 years ago, and I only had to replace 2 or 3 sockets, the most frequently used.

Wrenches

Cles plates

A set from 8 to 19 is a beginning. It's better to have a classical wrench on one side, and a ring head on the other. Use the ring head as often as you can, it's the best way to preserve your screws.

Hammer

Marteau

When everything goes wrong, use it...Seriously, a little one, a big one and a wood one is the right combination.

Torque wrench

Clé dynamométrique

A lot of people deal without it. I couldn't ! You feel safe, you never worry any more about self untightening screws, or destroyed ones. It's anyway absolutely necessary as soon as you start some operations on engine parts like camshafts. I have a low cost model (15E) for high torques (> 5 daN.m, for example wheel axis), and a top one for normal torques (1 to 5 daN.m), which cost me 160 E. But i think we can find very good ones for about 60 E.

Multimeter

Multimètre

Your only friend in case of electrical problems. For such applications, you don't need a great accuracy, so, choose a 10 E one in supermarket and it fill fit your needs.
