July 7th / Karigasniemi-Skelleftea : 820 km

Jour 14

I wake up, and I immediately feel that mosquitos had a good dinner during the night, despite all protections I used. I go, do a few shopping, and, after 6 km, stop once again.

100 000 !!!!

100 000 km, ladies and gentlemens!! And I even had to do a U-turn on the parking to take the pic !!

I go for next 100 000 ones, and I'm on an unending straight line, lost in Lapland forest, with road sign like the ones you can find on 66 road, indicating cities every 150 km...booorn to beee wiiiild!!

The problem is that I begin to miss home, and spend a whole week in forest with thousands mosquitos isn't really exciting. So, I decide to change my plans, and to directly go in Sweden at the Top of Botnia gulf.

After 100 km, I'm a bit surprised by a roadsign.

...très loin

Murmansk....I have a look at my map, I'm only 50 km from Russian border, and Murmansk is the city near which Koursk submarine sank in 2000. Yeah, sure I'm far away from home.

After an additionnal 160 km straight line in forest, I reach another city and do there a lunch break. Usually, Lapland evocates snow everywhere, polar temperature...right in winter, but not in july !!

C'est chaud le nord

Impressive, no ?? The next 130 km straight line leads me to Rovaniemi, where lives an old guy dressed in red.

Le village du Père Noël

Santa Clause city. Don't say that to your childrens, but this is a big tourist trap, with cash machine at the entrance, and shops everwhere. I forget my broken dreams, follow my way and enter Sweden, 8th country visited. I'm riding on the huge road going along Botnia gulf....boring. After 820 km, I decide to stop in Skelleftea, in a camping which is as desert as usual.

Un camping désert...

Hmmm, not so desert !!

Photo 10

Presque désert !!

But I worry a little about my rear tire. I think he didn't support all kilometers I did today, and I will have to replace it tomorrow, before weekend. I thought I could drive 9000 km with it, it last only 6000.
